Since the dawn of humanity, man has recorded paranormal events and activity. Immortalized in the cave drawings in Lascaux, France, stored in the Vatican’s underground archives, and indiscriminately broadcast over the airwaves, evidence of contact with the paranormal is undeniable.
However, the world is filled with seemingly unexplained happenings. How did Egyptians build the pyramids? How did Jesus walk on water? How did the Boston Red Sox win the World Series? This begs the question: what does “paranormal” even mean in a world where religious cults and pseudoscience abound?
What Is The Paranormal?
Generally, paranormal events are phenomena whose existence is described as beyond normal experience or scientific explanation. We often encounter tales of the paranormal in popular culture, folk tales, and other non-scientific bodies of knowledge. The advent of the internet and social media platforms has greatly exacerbated the proliferation of narratives concerning the paranormal.
However, paranormal activity is not merely a fixation of popular culture. Anomalies exist in our world, and we have yet to fully comprehend their properties. Are they the cause of extradimensional influence? Psychic forces not yet under our control? Simply elements of our reality that human endeavor has yet to interpret? At the FBC, we use every means available to science to understand and catalog paranormal events. We understand that paranormal events are very real, yet misunderstood. And we aren’t alone.
We Aren’t Alone?
The Bureau is not the only organization that seeks the paranormal. Anomaly-hunting groups often take unique perspectives of the origins, significance, and value of anomalies. While some groups imbue paranatural anomalies with religious significance, others consider anomalies to be a naturally-occurring phenomenon in our world that has escaped classification by accepted scientific fields of study. A number of Groups of Interest consider anomalies to be abominations that herald the end times.
Still, others view anomalies as unjustly-detained outcasts, threats to the global status quo, valuable objects to be sold on the black market, or simply a means to an end in armed conflicts.
The FBC is dedicated to understanding, containing, and controlling anomalies, and working with allied organizations to arrest criminal organizations seeking to exploit the paranatural for personal motivations.
Got Concerns?
Our policy at the FBC is — see something, say something. If you think you’ve stumbled upon an anomaly, or brought something home from work, don’t hesitate to visit Central Research or contact the office. The Bureau holds regular training seminars and courses available to all employees. If you are unable to attend these meetings, we urge you to contact the nearest Containment Sector employee to assist your questions or issues with paranatural matters.
